What We Mean by Social Housing

For us, housing is not just an apartment to live in. Living means much more: building relationships with neighbors, connecting with the local area and community, taking care of oneself and one’s space, and truly feeling “at home.”

For this reason, we offer apartments (studios and one-bedroom units) located in the Valle Serina, Valle Brembana, and Bergamo city areas.

Who It’s For

Social housing is designed for people facing vulnerabilities, including those with disabilities, mental health challenges, or economic disadvantages - but who maintain a good level of independence.

How To apply

Applications must be submitted by the person’s assigned social worker.

How It Works

Each resident is provided with their own furnished and independent apartment within a protected environment.

All residents have a dedicated support worker available 24/7.

The program offers a renewable one-year contract with affordable rent.

Upon entry, our team assesses all areas of the resident’s life (family, health, work, education) to create the best possible path toward independent living. If needed and requested, we can activate personalized projects covering everything from care support to job inclusion.

“Abitare n Valle” is a social housing initiative promoted by the Territorial Area of the Valle Brembana Mountain Community, which connects local municipalities and parishes with nonprofit organizations. The project is funded by the Cariplo Foundation and supported by GAL Valle Brembana and Leroy Merlin.

What It Is

This project offers housing to individuals or families facing vulnerabilities, who live in Valle Brembana, providing 10 apartments distributed throughout the territory.

The apartments are made available by municipalities and parishes and have been fully renovated by our cooperative, which currently manages them.

The goal is to address housing needs while revitalizing unused properties within the local communities.

How To Apply

To apply, candidates must register through the “Abitare in Valle” Help Desk, located at the Green House in Zogno (Via Locatelli 111). The desk is open every Friday morning from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM by appointment at 351 3655661. Applications are then evaluated by a commission coordinated by the Territorial Area.

Available Apartments

So far, the following apartments have been renovated and made available to eligible applicants:

  • 2 apartments in Somendenna, thanks to the Parish of Zogno
  • 3 apartments in Zogno, thanks to the San Lorenzo Foundation of Zogno
  • 3 apartments in Sedrina, thanks to the Municipality
  • 1 apartment in Valbrembilla, thanks to the Municipality
  • 1 apartment in Bracca, thanks to the Parish

There is strong demand for housing, and the project continues to evolve based on the interest and resources of local administrations and project partners.

There are individuals whose situations fall outside the scope of typical services, making it difficult for them to access appropriate care and support programs. Examples include people with dual diagnoses (mental health disorder and cognitive impairment) or those with physical disabilities combined with behavioral challenges.

For these cases, we provide personalized, private projects tailored to meet their unique needs. We start with housing, building a life plan around it, and ensuring the necessary care and support in collaboration with specialized agencies.

These protected apartments, funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), are intended for individuals with psychiatric disorders, disabilities, or dual diagnoses who can partially manage their lives independently. In addition to providing a home, they offer the support of a dedicated operator, particularly focused on training and job inclusion.

The main goal is to promote the autonomy of residents, helping them manage daily life, personal care, routine activities, and relationships with neighbors and the local community.

Who It’s For

These apartments are dedicated to individuals with psychiatric disorders, disabilities, or dual diagnoses, and are exclusively available to residents of the Valle Brembana.

How to Access Our Services

Access is granted through a recommedation from the social worker of the municipality of residence.

The project’s committee (composed of the Territorial Area, the Mountain Community, and ASST Papa Giovanni XXIII) evaluates each case and makes the final decision on assignments.
